Job Description:

BJG Professional Healthcare Services Ltd is offering an exciting opportunity for Band 5 Registered Nurses to join the Surgical Unit at Princess Elizabeth Hospital, under the States of Guernsey – Health & Social Care (HSC). This permanent, full-time role provides a dynamic and rewarding environment where nurses can develop their skills across a variety of surgical specialities including gastrointestinal, orthopaedic (trauma and elective), urological, and gynaecological care.

This is an ideal role for both newly qualified nurses and experienced professionals looking to expand their practice in a supportive and multidisciplinary setting. You’ll play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care while collaborating closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, allied health professionals, and other nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients in a fast-paced surgical setting.
Undertake patient assessments, implement and evaluate individualised care plans.
Administer medications, monitor patient recovery, and assist in pre- and post-operative care.
Act as a patient advocate, promoting dignity, respect, and wellbeing throughout the patient journey.
Support junior staff and healthcare assistants, providing guidance and supervision as required.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to effective handovers and care coordination.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold infection prevention and control standards.

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

✔ NMC Registered Nurse (or eligible for registration).

✔ Degree or Diploma in Adult Nursing.

✔ Excellent clinical, organisational, and communication skills.

✔ Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.

✔ Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous professional development.

Desirable:

➕ Previous experience in surgical nursing or an acute hospital environment.

➕ Familiarity with electronic patient records and care planning systems.

➕ IV drug administration qualification or willingness to complete training.
